Western Seminary Center for Lifelong Learning Internet Audio Podcasts

Welcome to WSCLL Internet Radio. Throughout the year, WSCLL will present a schedule of online media to provide helpful, enriching resources for life and ministry. This program takes advantage of what has become known as "podcasting," a media subscription service that uses RSS feeds to deliver .mp3 audio files to your desktop Windows or Apple Macintosh computer, or to a portable media device such as the Apple iPod.

But don't worry about what happens behind the scenes to make it possible. We will take care of all that. All you will need is:

    1. An internet connection - broadband preferred.
    2. A podcast receiver, sometimes known as a media aggregator, to "subscribe" to the Western Seminary radio channels. Whenever you access the program, the receiver will check for new content and automatically download the feed to your computer for listening at a time convenient to you, either on the desktop or on a portable media device. Many receivers are available for free download, including iPodder, for which we have included a direct link below.
    3. A program capable of playing .mp3 files.

What is "Podcasting"

Podcasting, which began its life as a combination of the two terms "iPod" (referencing the now ubiquitous Apple media player) and "broadcasting", is an increasingly popular way to publish content to the internet. Unlike media published to a standard website which requires each member of the audience to visit each site and click on a media link, podcasting uses media aggregator software such as iPodder™, and Apple iTunes™ to automatically pull content from an almost limitless variety of sites using a media subscription model known as an "RSS feed."

But podcasting has grown significantly beyond the iPod platform. Indeed, virtually any system that can access the internet and open standard media files can benefit from podcasting. Today thousands of radio programs and web resources - rich media content of all sorts - are available on a scale that is taking the internet world by storm.
