To avoid possible
confusion, and to facilitate your Learning Center enrollment, you
will be registered for each class by your Center for Lifelong Learning
representative. You will then be notified by email when you are
able to access the Learning Center for your course.
Logging
into Your Classroom
Access Options:
Go to http://www.wscll.net/learningcenter/
Click on the Learning Center / Classrooms Link in your course
CD ROM menu (if you are taking a CD ROM course)
Click on the Learning Center Link on the http://www.wscll.net
website.
Each
course has a syllabus that will guide you through the primary elements
of the course, including learning objectives, required and recommended
text books, grading
When
you logon to the Learning Center for the first time, you will be
required to change your password before continuing. This is a security
procedure. From this point on in the process no one else - even
in the Center for Lifelong Learning - will know your password. Please
do not share passwords with any other student or individual.
Discussion
forums provide opportunities to engage in asynchronous interactions
with other students. Asynchronous simply means that, unlike chat
or instant messaging, students do not need to be online at the same
time. To make this work, in many classes you will be expected to
post discussion topics and reply to those of others as part of your
learning experience. In this session, you will learn how to post
an initial topic to a discussion forum.
Discussion
is at least two-way. You will be asked to consider and respond to
the postings of other students and to those initiated by your instructor.
This session will explain how to interact with your fellow students.
Many
classes in the Learning Center have the calendar function activated.
If so, you are able to see important course dates, group dates,
and, if you choose, post personal "user" dates to keep
track of your course activities and planning. This session will
show you how to add a user event to a calendar.
You
have an online profile that will help others know a little about
you as you study together. While we discourage the inappropriate
posting of personal information, the more others know about you,
the more they will be able to interact with you from a position
of knowledge.
The
Online Learning Center permits the student to use the Back and Forward
buttons of their browser to navigate the classroom. You are also
provided a trail of "breadcrumbs" that provide immediate
access to previous pages in your path.
It
is very easy to upload a file for review in the Learning Center.
Sometimes you will have the option to upload a file more than once
as a work in progress; other times you will not. Whichever the case,
the process remains largely the same.
Sorry,
there frequently are quizzes in our Learning Center classrooms.
Some are fully online, while others are files that you will download,
answer, and upload for grading. In this video, you will learn how
to take an online quiz successfully.
It depends on your Internet Explorer browser version.
In IE 6.0+
From inside IE, click on Tools > Internet Options and choose the Privacy Tab.
Change the slider settings incrementally lower until you are able to access the online learning center.
If your version of IE has an option on the Privacy tab allowing you to override cookie settings on individual sites, I would recommend using that so that only http://www.wscll.net is changed.
Save your settings.
In IE 5.0+
From inside IE, click on Tools > Internet Options and choose the Security Tab.
Scroll down until you see "Cookies" and click on the "Enable" radio button.
