The Center for Lifelong Learning uses multiple delivery Systems for distance courses. Audio and video courses only require the basic media players.
Increasingly, WSCLL is using CD ROM* and DVD ROM* media to deliver instructional resources, and the Online Learning Center for peer-to-peer and faculty-to-student interaction.
But don't worry. If you are taking one of our CD ROM or DVD ROM courses, you don't need to be a computer whiz to succeed in the program. You must, however, have a computer system sufficiently robust to meet our basic course requirements. You will need:
Software:
- Microsoft XP™ Operating System
- Word processor able to write to Microsoft Word™ 6.0+ format
- Internet Browser. Microsoft Internet Explorer™ 5.0+, or Netscape™ 7.0+ with Internet access (broadband connection highly recommended
Important Note: Internet Explorer must be selected as your default browser to view the media files on your CD ROM / DVD ROM disks. To learn how to set IE as your default browser, CLICK HERE.
- Powerpoint 2003 recommended but not required.
- Email program able to send and receive email attachments
- Acrobat Reader™ 5.0 and above
- Windows Media Player 9.0 or above.
Hardware:
- Pentium IV™ computer (or equivalent)
- 48X CD ROM or faster...or...
- 8X DVD ROM or faster
- Sound card and speakers
- Adequate free disk space on your hard drive to allow for efficient operation of programs

*Important Note: Courses delivered in CD / DVD format are computer CD ROM / DVD ROM disks designed for computers running the Windows operating system. They will not work in home or auto CD / DVD audio and video systems, and they will not provide full function when used with Macintosh computers running Apple operating systems.
